My name is Iman Rabie, and I'm a 35-year-old married mother of three. My children, including a son with a disability, are all currently in school. We live in a village in Minya, Upper Egypt, and my husband works as a laborer with an inconsistent income.
I have a small sewing project and used to have an old swing machine, but I spent most of the income on its maintenance because it broke down so often. I really wanted to buy a modern machine and expand my business and meet the demands of customers.
I heard about the training and seminars offered by the "Together Association" in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Solidarity, through their "Enhancing Institutional Capabilities and Human Resources" project. I registered and attended the training on how to start, grow, manage a project, and calculate costs, profits, and losses in a simple way.
After that, I had the opportunity to apply for funding to buy a modern machine and fabrics. I applied for 30,000 EGP, received the money, and bought a new sewing machine. Then, I went to the district and purchased a large quantity of fabric at excellent wholesale prices.
My project has truly grown. I even trained my daughter to work with me on the other sewing machine. Now, I make abayas and tailor many different styles for people according to their requests.
This has made a huge difference in the size and activity of my project, and more people know about my work. My income is now more than four times what it was before, even after paying off the installments. It covers my project's costs and also helps significantly with household expenses.
